about

The digital reissue no one has been waiting for. Rescued from DAT master oblivion and hoisted up here onto Bandcamp's servers, which have become a massive archive of people's embarrassing attempts at expressing themselves. Here's yet another contribution from the BF stable of crap. Where will it end?

A few fun facts about this record:

* Originally recorded in 1995 and released as a 12" picture disc in early 1996 on East German label Strike Records.
* The original picture disc photography of Newcastle in all its decaying industrial glory was by Ian McArthur and friend Justin Wolthers (who had also appeared on FIST01 and FIST02 as Pendulum, and later on FIST31 as de-Koder).
* Strike Records reissued the record in 2003 as a black vinyl 12", after some bellend-or-other accidentally damaged the original films for the picture disc artwork.
* The record was originally going to be released as 'Newcastle Hardcore Volume 3' on Bloody Fist (FIST04), but minds were changed at the last minute because humans are messy and complicated.
* All tracks appearing on the release were produced entirely on Amiga computers, and the vinyl master was recorded to DAT one weeknight in mid-1995, with all artists turning up to Bloody Fist HQ brandishing 2 or 3 tracks each on 3.5" floppy disks.
* During the discussion of the final tracklisting that night, the Syndicate brothers became embroiled in a massive argument about which of their tracks should be included. Had that argument been secretly recorded, it would have probably appeared on the actual record as Syndicate's contribution in place of 'Grim Reaper'. It was an absolute doozy.
* The Netas track caused laughter all-round when it was initially played that evening due to the killer combination of punk irreverence, slight technical ineptitude and an extremely high PPM (profanities per minute) count. Plus prominent and well respected industrial hardcore producers of the time like Stickhead would have absolutely hated it, so in it went.
* Embolism's speedcore contribution to the record was from the same 1995 sessions as the tracks he produced through a tiny mono TV speaker in his bedroom for FIST04.
* A few months after the initial release, there were a batch of picture discs discovered to have pressing faults. Attempts were made to isolate the batch, which were then turned into rather fetching wall clocks and sold exclusively through the Bloody Fist mailorder. Embrace the fuckups! One of these clocks appeared in the FISTOGRAPHY exhibition in 2014.
* Strike Records actually commissioned a post-BF era 'Straight Out Of Newcastle Volume 2' around 2007/2008, which was to include Paulblackout, Xylocaine, Epsilon and Hedonist. It was eventually abandoned because humans are messy and complicated. And lazy.
