about

Old Rope once again continues to discharge raw effluent directly into the cesspool of industrial hardcore history with two tracks by Disassembler (David Melo of Nasenbluten). David’s work rarely appeared on its own outside of Nasenbluten, and there were never any standalone Disassembler solo releases, with Disassembler tracks only ever appearing on a couple of compilations. There was an ill-fated attempt to release a full Disassembler 12” in mid-2000, but this only resulted in a bunch of test pressings dumped in defeat off the back of the Stockton ferry, directly into Newcastle Harbour. The Disassembler project was swiftly abandoned after this, with David disappearing from music altogether after Nasenbluten’s final performance in 2001.

Cold Hate appears here on Side A, and was originally produced sometime in early 1998. The track appeared in several Nasenbluten live sets throughout 1998 and was then commandeered for the NCL TRAX v1.0 2xCD compilation (as a Disassembler track) which was released later that year. Two years later during 2000, the track was recorded alongside three others for a planned Disassembler FIST22 vinyl release. This went REAL BAD, and Cold Hate has remained unreleased on vinyl until now.

Side B features a real oddity which was unearthed during the Bloody Fist Amiga MOD archiving sessions in 2017. Struck With An Ax dates back to 1993 and is an early hardcore/breakcore experiment inspired directly by the EC8OR & Moonraker records of the time. The track also marks the first ever use of the Concrete Compressor kick drum originally made by Aaron Lubinski (this same kick drum was later used as the basis for the Nasenbluten track Concrete Compressor). Crusty, layered lo-fi second-gen breakbeats are mashed over the top, with random AM radio snippets of cricket commentary, talkback and news reports sprinkled throughout. Struck With An Ax was never released, never played live, and remained as an early David Melo Amiga experimentation that had been forgotten about until it turned up during the BF archive trawl in 2017.

Both tracks have been captured raw and unmastered direct from a fully re-capped Amiga 1200.
