about

Sometime during the mid 90s two brothers made themselves known to the Bloody Fist collective, Samuel and Daniel. Both from a heavy academic background, they started experimenting in their spare time with an old PC running some primitive tracking software. Dan also started practising cuts and became quite adept on the ol' line switch! They were the first Bloody Fist guys to bring two entire old school desktop PCs (with fishbowl monitors) to perform semi-regularly at the infamous Hunter On Hunter gigs in Newcastle (everyone else at the time was using Amigas to perform). A third guy (Andrew Bramble) was enlisted specifically to stand behind the Russell brothers and roll cigarettes during their 'live performances'. Their music wasn't always as 'gritty' as the other BF acts, and their sample sources were not typical of the rest of the roster at the time - instead concentrating on a harsher 'digital' sound. During 1997 a gap came up in the BF catalogue which needed filling quickly. The Russell brothers had come up with enough half-baked ideas between them to scrape up a 12". This was a bit of a risk as it was not like other BF releases before it. This was also the first ever BF 12" to contain no traces of Amiga whatsoever. Upon its 12" release late in 1997, the first pressing of 500 dribbled out and only 100 were repressed soon after. It was never repressed and remains a curiosity in the catalogue, having successfully polarised the BF fans at the time and also the rest of the BF roster. Result!

released November 15, 1997

Written and produced by the brothers Russell (Sam & Dan) at various times during 1996 and 1997, using some obscure tracking software on an old PC. The highlight on this 12" would have to be the track 'POLIS' which at the insistence of Mr Newlands was overdriven through a cheap DJ mixer whilst being captured to DAT.

As a bonus when you purchase the entire digital release, there is an extra version of 'POLIS' included which was a loud and abrasive mono mixdown recorded through an auto-level mic input to give it extra roughness!
